What To Do After You Write A Blog Post

Updated: Jul 18, 2019

Blog

So you decided to take the plunge and start a blog for your small business. You even came up with a great first topic that is guaranteed to resonate with readers and either wrote a draft on your own in a simple Word document or had Edit This® craft it for you.

Now what?

What do you do with it?

How do people find your blog?

Blogging is a pivotal piece to improving a company's online visibility and, if done correctly, will produce immeasurable results. That includes the ability to engage with clients and set yourself up as an authority. More and more business owners recognize the importance of blogging and look to Edit This to help them with their writing and editing needs, but some are so new to it that they don't know where to publish them and what to do beyond that.

Without getting technical, here's a 3-step guide on what to do after you write a blog post:

Blogging

1. Put it on your website and hit "publish post" – Your website should already have a blog tab at the top of the home page or in a drop-down menu. If not, get your web person to add it, because this is where all your posts will go moving forward. Platforms like WordPress and Wix are user-friendly and walk you through adding an engaging title, placing your text, and incorporating pictures, videos, tags, etc.

2. Share the new post on social media – Once your blog post is published, copy the individual link and share it to all your company social media accounts. For example, our blogs are posted to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+. This is a great way to spark views, shares, likes, comments, followers, and potential business.

3. Write another blog post – Now that you've successfully written, published, and shared a blog for the whole world to find and enjoy, pick another engaging topic and do it again ... and again ... and again. The key with blogging is consistency and frequency.

Don't stop there with each blog post

We mentioned sharing your blog posts to social media, but don't stop there. If anyone comments on the post, respond as quickly as possible to continue the conversation.

You can go a step further than that and incorporate the link to your entire blog into the signature line on your email, that way customers who don't use social media very often have a chance to see your posts and get drawn back to your website.

You can also send an individual blog post to select clients who might benefit from it or use it in your next e-newsletter.

The possibilities are endless!
