Last week, I learned that my little writing and editing company, Edit This®, was named Best Writing & Editing Service in this year's Best of Denton County awards. It was the eighth year in a row that I won this award, which made me feel pretty darn amazing in and of itself.
However, what really stood out to me were the reactions.
Within 30 minutes, my short thank-you post on social media blew up with nearly 200 likes and 100 congratulatory comments.
Don't believe me? See for yourself.
This doesn't include text messages, phone calls, cheers from friends at networking events, etc. Even a week later, people are still reveling in the victory with me.
The outpouring of support was mind-blowing for me and the hundreds of other winners in this year's BODC contest. In an age where it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of work life, seemingly unending to-do lists, kids' activities, stuff breaking around the house, and even the negative stuff that has captured everyone's attention on social media, the internet, and on television, we still make time to stop and celebrate each other's successes–however big or small.
That means a lot, especially to us small business owners who are really good at what we do but often can't comprehend the impact we have on other people.
It doesn't matter if you're a writer, photographer, artist, restaurant owner, lawyer, doctor, or something in between; we put our hearts and souls into what we do. And while we certainly don't do it for the accolades and cheers, it does let us know how we are doing and the impact we're making in our little corner of the world.
So again ... from the bottom of my heart ... THANK YOU!
Thank you for the well wishes.
Thank you for the votes.
Thank you for dealing with me constantly asking for votes!
Thank you for the opportunity to write for you.
Thank you for sharing your personal stories with me!
Thank you for allowing me to chase my passion.
Thank you for EVERYTHING.
I will leave you with this, and I know that I always say it: I had no clue if any of this would work when I started this journey 10 years ago. I believe in myself, but there are many things that we can't control in life. In my mind, starting a small business from scratch was one of them.
But here I am, and I have you to thank for that–over and over again!
