Upcoming Event: Steve Gamel Writing Workshops, Class No. 10

The best journalists, writers, and storytellers are the ones who realize that active listening makes you a more effective writer. But what do I mean when I say "active listening," and how can you use it to your advantage as a writer? Well, that's the focus of the next installment of the "Steve Gamel Writing Workshops" on October 10!

And trust me when I say ... you don't want to miss this one.

I know, I know. I say you don't want to miss these every month. The same was true for last month's class (which was amazing, btw). It was also true for the one before that.

It'll even be true for future classes.

But seriously ... you don't want to miss this. If you're actively listening to me, you'll show up!

Why Have a Writing Workshop on Active Listening?

"To be a good interviewer and ask the right questions, you must listen. To truly hear someone's story or the message they are trying to teach you–and get it right–you need to listen. To get people to talk enthusiastically, you have to shut up and listen. But not just any listening will do. ... To actively listen as a writer means fully concentrating on what someone is saying rather than just passively hearing the message of the speaker. It involves listening with all the senses, smiling, making good eye contact, having good posture, and engaging in the conversation. It's a skill some of us have to work at, and it requires a lot of patience."

So, what better place to work on your active listening skills than at my writing workshops series? You'll be surrounded by other writers and enthusiasts who want nothing more than to learn and grow together while building a community at the same time.

I wasn't a natural at active listening. I cultivated this skill throughout the early parts of my writing career, and I still work on it today! I want to share a few tips and tricks that work for me.

Register for My Next Workshop Today!

I've always believed the worst thing any professional writer can do is spend decades perfecting their craft only to keep all those trade secrets, tips, tricks, and life hacks to themselves. We should educate and inspire the next generation, relying on our successes and failures to share what works, what doesn't, and how to steer others in the right direction.

It's the reason I wrote my book, Write Like You Mean It: Mastering Your Passion for the Written Word, and it's the reason I've started these writing workshops.

For now, these writing workshops are in-person events only. Space is also limited. So, if you're interested in joining us, please don't wait until the last minute. The QR code/link to register is in the image above, and the cost is $59 per person.

The cost covers light snacks, an excellent presentation, Q&A time, and networking. I will also have copies of my book available for purchase.

I can't wait to see you on October 10.

Thank you for reading!
