Start a Writing Business in 2025 With Help From Our Coaching Service

You're a writer and a darn good editor, too. You're so good that you finally decided to go beyond hobbies and side hustle stuff to start a full-fledged writing business in 2025.

The problem is that you don't know where to start, and you have a ton of questions.

"Do I need a website? And if so, who's going to build it?"

"What do I need, and where do I go to set up a formal writing business?"

"Where do I promote myself first?" "What's the best way to develop a recognizable brand?" "Who's my target audience?" "Can I even be successful with this gig?"

The first thing to realize is that these are all valid questions. Furthermore, you're not alone. Plenty of writers and editors were in your shoes at one point in their careers–and many of the really successful ones are more than happy to share what worked, what didn't, what they wish they'd done differently, and everything in between.

These "aces in the hole" are writing consultants and coaches, and hiring one may be what you need to start your writing business faster and more confidently.

I Was Once In Your Shoes

I started Edit This® with a single client, a laptop, and the belief that my dream of becoming the local writer every business owner needs would work. Fast-forward to today, and it turns out that I was correct. That said, nothing came easy.

I had a ton of questions and no clear path or game plan. More often than not, I felt like I was feeling my way around in the dark. I didn't have a coach in my corner to guide me.

Sure, everything worked out. But I want more for you, so I started my coaching service!

What's a writing coach? It's someone who guides and challenges you to create the successful freelance writing career you've been dreaming about. We aren’t your editor, writer, or second set of eyes, and we won’t take the steps toward small-business ownership for you. But we will coach you through getting that business started, including giving you practical advice, actionable step-by-step instructions, accountability and structure, and anything else we can do to help you overcome obstacles that may pop up along the way.

The best part is that everything a writing coach teaches you is from real-world experience and can be tailored to meet your unique needs as a soon-to-be freelance writing professional.

Depending on where you are in your unique journey to starting a writing business, our consulting and coaching services can include the following:

  • How to start a formal company

  • A plan to start thinking strategically

  • Helping define your target audience

  • Figure out why you’re stuck and what’s sabotaging you

  • Tips on how to create a brand

  • Social media advice

  • How to build confidence through clarity

  • Emotional support and encouragement

  • Various other best practices

  • Career-defining results

How Do I Get Started With Coaching Services?

Everything starts with a FREE 30-minute call. From there, you’ll have three 45-60-minute phone, Zoom, or in-person sessions per month, where we provide customized step-by-step instructions to keep you on track and turn your hobby into a successful writing business.

Additional support can be found in my book, Write Like You Mean It: Mastering Your Passion For The Written Word. I also host monthly in-person writing workshops in Argyle. Classes are held on the second Thursday of each month, and the topic changes each time. This is a wonderful opportunity to network with fellow writers and editors, learn how to master your passion for the written word, and move forward confidently on your chosen journey.
