11 Things You Might Not Know About Our Company, Edit This

I was wrapping up a fun interview with a client last week when she caught me off guard with an interesting request. Since she'd answered all my questions for the writing project I was set to work on for her, she thought it'd be fun to slide over into the interviewer chair and learn more about what I do at Edit This®.
Granted, she had a general idea. But she was genuinely interested in learning more. Twenty minutes and a litany of questions later, she was far from done!
When we finished, she insisted the entire experience was "absolutely fascinating."
I'm certainly not going to pretend to be as "fascinating" as she said I was, but it was a fun conversation ... and I can tell that I'm really going to enjoy working with her moving forward. The experience also got me thinking about how many people I interact with every day and all the things they might not know yet about their friendly neighborhood writer and editor.
With that in mind, here are a few things you might not know about Edit This®.
Did You Know This About Edit This?
It started as a side gig — I started Edit This in 2014 with every intention of it being my full-time job right off the bat. But four months into it, I was still barely busy enough to provide for my family. Thankfully, I'd been freelancing for a local newspaper as a sportswriter and was offered a chance to go full-time. I jumped at the offer, and since they didn't have a problem with me continuing to do Edit This on the side, it allowed me to grow my company slowly without feeling like I had to become an overnight success. Three years later, Edit This had become a full-time job. I left the paper but continued to freelance for them under Edit This.
Edit This is more than editing — Despite the company name, Edit This is more than just fixing typos. We offer a full range of do-it-for-you services, including content creation and editing (blogs, website copy, press releases), book writing, and resumes. We haven't found anything that we can't write or edit, and there aren't many industries or people we haven't helped with the written word.
We love to teach and inspire — My goal is to educate, inspire, and share everything I've learned over the years. I offer writing workshops and one-on-one coaching services for the next generation of writers. I also wrote my first book in 2021, Write Like You Mean It. This book is a roadmap for writers at any stage of their journey. Packed with practical advice and real-world insights, it’s a must-read.
We are sought-after speakers — From writing workshops to business conferences, I regularly share my expertise through speaking engagements. My talks focus on the power of storytelling, effective business writing, and the writing life in general.
Storytelling is our superpower — Every person, business, and nonprofit has a story to tell. Edit This was created to tell those stories in the most authentic and captivating way possible and connect with readers, whether you need help writing a book or you need someone to tell your company's story on an About Us page.
I say "we" a lot for a reason — Edit This may have been a one-man show when it first started. But nearly 11 years later, I have a small but mighty team of writers and editors by my side (Thanks, Mike and Lori). I have collaborated with other professionals, including editors, graphic design artists, website creators, photographers, videographers, local media outlets, and more.
Our clients are nationwide — Edit This clients are nationwide. We even worked with one international client. No matter your location, we cover your writing and editing needs.
We love small businesses — Given my background as a longtime journalist covering community news, I have a heart for small businesses. I write for several area publications, including The Cross Timbers Gazette and Murray Media. I frequently work with local entrepreneurs to help them tell their stories and grow their brands through quality content writing and editing.
We're involved in our community — Whether it's volunteering with local chambers of commerce or organizing and running networking meetings, events, and mixers, Edit This is committed to being an active member of the local communities we serve.
We've won awards — Working with us means you have access to award-winning writers who know their craft. From winning Best Writing & Editing Service in Best of Denton County multiple years in a row to Sportswriter of the Year (Division I) for TGCA and Class A Sports Column Writing (1st place) for TAPME, you can trust our services are top-notch!
We genuinely love what we do — Our passion for writing is what drives Edit This. I love telling a good story, and as a team, we love the look on our client's faces when they see how impactful their stories can be when they're shared with the masses. My team's enthusiasm for storytelling is evident in every writing and editing project we take on.
